A dedicated home cinema in Guzape, Abuja: a 210-inch projection screen, immersive height-channel sound, scene-based lighting, and single-remote control, built into a room engineered from the studs up for acoustic isolation.
Alexence Cinema is a private screening room, built for our client to host films the way a commercial cinema would, for up to ten guests at a time. Alongside two rows of seating, the room includes a bar and lounge where the evening can start before the film.
The challenge was to deliver cinema-quality picture and sound in a single room with none of the equipment on show, while making sure every guest had a clear view and the sound stayed inside the room.
We built the room so that an evening here is simple to run from start to finish.
Whether guests are gathering at the bar or settling into their seats, the room is controlled the same way: one keypad for the lighting and one remote for the film.
Sound reaches every seat from the front, the sides, behind and overhead, with every speaker hidden in the walls and ceiling, and a second soundproofed layer of walls keeps it all inside the room.
The bar and lounge at the back of the room is where an evening at Alexence begins, with bar stools and a lounge sofa for guests to gather before the film.
It has its own lighting scene, so the bar stays warm and welcoming while the seats further forward are kept dim.
The equipment cabinet is kept out of sight. Everything that runs the room, from the film library to the sound and lighting controls, sits in one rack, neatly organised so it can be maintained without disturbing the room.
We placed the front speakers directly behind the screen so the sound comes from the picture itself, and built six subwoofers into the walls around it so the bass is spread through the room instead of coming from one corner. The seating was given the same attention, with the back row raised so every guest has a clear view over the row in front.
